JSON & text editor for Android
A text editor that turns into a JSON tool.
Open any text file. When it is JSON, switch to a Tree or a Table, filter with JSONPath, and compare two files side by side. Pay once, no ads, works offline.
2.49 once, every feature. No subscription, no account.
Everything the web tool does, on your phone
Neat Nest brings the JSON editor from dev.zanoski.com to Android, with the same views, the same colours and the same compare.
A real text editor
Line numbers, find and replace, undo and redo, word wrap, and a key row with { } [ ] : , " and Tab. Opens .json, .txt, .log, .csv, .md, .yaml, .xml and more.
Tree view
Open and close objects and arrays, edit any value, delete, copy a value or its path. Big arrays show 200 items at a time.
Table view
Arrays of objects become rows and columns, nested keys become dotted columns, and every column sorts.
Compare two files
Key order and formatting never count as a change, array items line up by value, and Previous and Next step through every difference.
JSONPath filter
$..id, items[0:3], users[?(@.age > 30)] and regular expressions, on the Tree or the Table.
Errors you can find
Strict validation with the exact line and column of the first error. Invalid JSON still opens, so you can fix it.
Your file, exactly
Saves back to the file you opened. Numbers stay as written, even 12345678901234567890. No byte order mark, no escaped letters, your line endings kept.
Private by design
No ads, no account, no tracking. The app does not even ask for internet access. Your edits are kept on the phone as you type.
Open files straight into Neat Nest
Neat Nest shows up wherever Android offers to open a text or JSON file.
- Tap a .json or .txt file in Files, Gmail, Drive or Downloads.
- When Android asks which app to use, pick Neat Nest.
- Tap Always, so it opens straight away next time.
If another app already opens JSON files, Neat Nest's home screen names it and takes you to its Open by default setting. You can also Share a file or some text to Neat Nest, or select JSON in any app and pick Open in Neat Nest. Two home screen widgets give one tap Open, New, Paste and Compare, and your recent files.
Questions
How big a file can it open?
Files up to 20 MB. Up to about 800 KB the Text view edits everything. Larger files scroll smoothly in a read only Text view, and you edit their values in the Tree view. We tested with a 7 MB file of 28,000 records.
Does it change my file when I only format it?
Format, Compact and Sort keys change only spacing and key order. Numbers keep their exact digits, strings keep their characters, and saving keeps your line endings. Editing in the Tree view rewrites the file formatted, the way the web tool does.
Which JSONPath does the filter read?
Names, quoted names, indexes, negative indexes, slices, wildcards, deep search with .., and filters with == != < <= > >= =~ /regex/, &&, || and !. A query it cannot read shows an error instead of a guess.
Is it for JSON only?
No. Every text file opens in the editor. The Tree, Table and Compare views appear when the file is JSON, and you can switch any file between JSON and plain text.
Where do I report a bug or ask for a feature?
On the report page of the user guide, or by email to zanoski.marko@gmail.com.
